Tourist of the Week - Summer in Sweden

Today we’re at Flickorna Lundgren, a traditional café in the small seaside village of Arild in Skåne where we’re hoping to find someone on holiday enjoying some Swedish cakes and coffee who can share some tips of things to see in this part of Skåne.
Hej! Who are you and where are you from?
Hello! I’m Tim and I’m from the Isle of Wight but live in London.
How did you find this place?
Well I’m here visiting my girlfriend and her family and they have a family tradition to always meet up at this café at least once a year so here we are enjoying what I’m told is a typical Swedish fika. Seems everyone does this in this part of Sweden, there must be hundreds of people here today!
Ah, well the cakes do look lovely! Any favourites so far?
Ha ha, well I’m not sharing if that’s what you’re hoping! I love the vanilla hearts and apparently they’re really famous. My girlfriend has repeatedly told me that the previous Swedish king used to come here and eat loads of them!
Where else have you visited on your holiday in Skåne?
We’ve been to Helsingborg a couple of times to go shopping and also done a ‘tura’ which is when you take the ferry from Helsingborg in Sweden across to Helsingör in Denmark. And we’ve played loads of golf at Allerum Golf Course and one called Bjäre Golf Club, great fun and we’ve been really lucky with the weather. Oh and we played an awesome course in a small village called Viken where we saw lots of old skool hickory stick players, the golf course looked like it could have been a links course in Scotland!
Where are you visiting next?
Well more golf courses I’m afraid, next stop after our coffee break is S:t Arild’s golf club just around the corner from here. Then my girlfriend has insisted that we go to a pottery in Mölle called Mölle Krukmakeri and think we are also stopping off in Höganäs for more pottery on our way back and to buy cheese at Oldsberg’s Ost.
Tonight we’re going out in Båstad to check out all the people who go there and party during the tennis weeks.
What have you enjoyed most about your stay in Skåne?
Golf has been great and I’ve really enjoyed the food. I’ve become slightly addicted to these hot dogs that everyone eats over here, they have them in IKEA in the UK but the ones you get in the Korv kiosks here are amazing and very different.
What are your ‘must sees’ in Skåne for a British tourist?
I haven’t been there yet but I’d love to go to Ven, it’s this tiny island in between Skåne and Denmark and I’ve heard it’s very cool and there are hardly any cars so everyone cycles. I guess everyone who loves all the Swedish dark films and books should go to Ystad where the Wallander series are filmed and Malmö if you liked The Bridge.
Great, thanks for chatting to us and enjoy the rest of your fika!
Tack så mycket!
